A bittersweet story of a 14-year-old girl dealing with her
mother's death, the onset of womanhood, and her own awakening
sexuality. Alicia, resistant to the idea of traditional
women's roles, works in a butcher shop, where she daydreams
about her mother and writes letters to her best friend, a
girl she's known all her life and with whom she must part
upon their graduation from elementary school.
